Moving instruments

If you need to move your instrument to another laboratory, building or town, we will prepare it for the removal, especially by fixing its moving parts and packaging it. After moving, we will put the instrument back into operation and verify its functionality.

Inspections & preventive examinations and instrument performance verification (IPV)

Verification of the current state of the instrument - to ensure trouble-free operation!

In order to ensure trouble-free operation of your instrument, we offer regular inspections aimed at verifying the current status of the instrument, functionality of the system and its components, including control units (computers), cleaning, adjustment, and calibration, if necessary. We recommend to carry out the instrument inspection (preventive examinations) according to the needs of the laboratory or based on the requirements of your SOP, at least once a year.

We will verify, after the regular inspection visit, repair or simply ad hoc, that your instruments comply with their functional specifications. This not only means that they are in good technical condition, but that they provide results that you reasonably expect and require and that may not always be achieved due to the consumables and reagents used. The tests are carried out according to the standards prescribed by the manufacturer.

Reliability check of your instruments using installation standards is to guarantee results that you reasonably expect and require. The instrument performance verification (IPV) includes the following (the list is not complete):

DNA sequencers

  • Instrument calibration (spatial and spectral calibration for dye sets as needed)
  • General functional test carried out to verify that the instrument can distinguish peaks detected at a confidence level of 99.7% (resolution - size separation), verification of the detected peak height (detection sensitivity), verification of the length of reading (LOR)
  • Protocol - After IPV, a protocol is issued for the customer containing all parameters, including any issues discovered

Real-Time PCR instruments

  • Check of the optical system, calibrations if necessary
  • TC check (temp verification, ramp rates for cooling & heating, sample block uniformity)
  • General functional test carried out to verify that the device can distinguish samples with templates the concentration of which differs twice (or within the specifications of the manufacturer) at the confidence level of 99.7%
  • Protocol - After IPV, a protocol is issued for the customer containing all parameters, including any issues discovered

Refurbished sequencers, Applied Biosystems brand, at reasonable costs, including long-term warranty and qualified service, for sale or rent.

Our customers have high expectations regarding the long term reliability of laboratory equipment and we pride ourselves on providing not only instruments meeting these expectations but also excellent service and technical support. All systems meet product specifications, include standard warranty and a service contract can be concluded after the warranty period expires.

DNA sequencer upgrade

Upgrading of your DNA sequencer with no additional costs for expensive data analysis software packages.

Due to their long life, Applied Biosystems® genetic analyzers are key instruments in many labs for years. Their computers, however, may not last that long and even if they do, their operating system becomes sooner or later outdated due to Microsoft developments. For example, many labs use models 3130/xl for two decades now but these instruments were originally supported by Windows XP – based computers! Users of these sequencers therefore face a problem to regularly update their controlling computers and that can be rather costly.

To prevent the never-ending purchasing of new software licenses (e.g. DataCollection, GeneMapper, Sequencing Analysis, and SeqScape software) whose only benefit is they are compatible with the newest version of Windows, we have developed an upgrade solution with the following key features:

  • We provide a new powerful computer to control the genetic analyzer that has the newest OS installed, i.e Windows 10 (in 2021).
  • The OS is regularly and automatically being updated as requested by Microsoft (and also your local IT…)
  • Into that PC, we install DataCollection software using the license that you possess. If, for instance, you purchased DataCollection software v3.0 for 3130 in the past, we will install it!
  • For 3500/xl we deliver and install DataCollection version 3.1. Its major advantage is that it allows to bypass annoying hardstops in previous versions of the DataCollection software, see also below.
  • Additionally, you provide a list of software licenses you possess for data analysis (for example GeneMapper v5, Sequencing Analysis v5.4 etc.) and we will install these too.*
  • Depending on your request, we will transfer settings and/or data from your old PC to your new PC we supply.

 

Upgrade of Applied Biosystems® Genetic Analyzers, 3500 series, to Windows 10

Data Collection software of 3500 series performs automatic detection of reagents and instrument accessories used. Quite often it forces the instrument operators to replace these reagents and accessories unnecessarily frequently, nonefficiently and makes the whole operation of 3500 series very expensive. We offer performing a software upgrade which allows circumventing this noneconomical way of running these instruments.

We offer to deliver and perform this software upgrade including a new computer, instrument calibrations and professional training of instrument operators. Simultaneously, we will upgrade the OS to Windows 10.

Upgrade of Applied Biosystems® Genetic Analyzer, model ABI Prism® 310, to Windows 10

A single capillary sequencer, ABI Prism® 310, has proven its admirable long-term reliability and excellent performance and is very popular among its users. Unfortunately, Microsoft Corporation no longer supports older versions of operating systems that were compatible with this sequencer (Windows XP and preceding).

We do offer, for ABI Prism® 310, a new computer for data collection and analysis with Windows 10 on board. Additionally, there is no need to buy new software licenses for data collection and analysis; you can keep on using your current ones. The only new license you need is the new operating system.

We also offer a long-term full service contract for ABI Prism 310® after this upgrade! This instrument rightfully deserves its nickname, „The Everlasting 310”.

Upgrade of Applied Biosystems® Genetic Analyzers, 3130 series, to Windows 10

Similarly as a single capillary sequencer, ABI Prism® 310 (mentioned above), also 3130 series of genetic analyzers – models 3130 and 3130xl, represent instruments that have outlived their expectations. These robust 4- or 16-capillary sequencers are exactly those most people think of when thinking about capillary sequencing. Originally based on Windows XP they are no longer available new and are therefore most frequently refurbished and resaled among sequencers. Their capacity (up to 164 samples per 24 hrs for 3130 or 656 samples per 24 hrs for 3130xl, respectively) and at the same time possibility to analyze as few as 4 or 16 samples in a single run make them ideal for low to mid-throughput labs.

We do offer a software upgrade for these units to make them compatible with operating systems supported officially by Microsoft. The upgrade includes a new computer for data collection and analysis with Windows 10 on board and we can make your current data analysis software licenses run on this OS. No need to buy expensive software licenses from Life Technologies! This upgrade can be purchased as a part of a long-term full service contract for 3130 or 3130xl models.
