Introduction
R is a powerful statistical computing language, very efficient and versatile, allowing fast calculations and the display of accurate and elegant charts and tables. Also, its huge community of users support each other and almost every question you might have is already answered. R is used wherever there are data, including every scientific discipline and also industry you might think of. And that includes, of course, genomics, transcriptomics, and all the -omics that use NGS data. R users report that the benefits from learning R far outweigh the time and effort dedicated to learning it.
We present you with our workshop on NGS data visualization using R. The reason of choosing the R language is not only because its computing power, but also because it is perfect for plotting various scientific data, not only NGS. You will learn the basics of R, how to become proficient in data handling and the principles of data analysis. All this enables you to learn the power of R for data visualization, including making all the most common plots used in NGS publications, and even more.
Even though this workshop is focused on NGS data, the tools and elements taught here can be also used in other scientific disciplines, as previously mentioned.
During the workshop…
- The teachers will provide lectures with hands-on exercises so the participants will consolidate and self-assess their progress in learning the course contents.
- Workshop participants will perform all data analysis tasks themselves! One computer per participant will allow full engagement into the workshop.
- The powerful computer infrastructure will be provided, no personal laptops are required/allowed.
Who should attend?
- The event is intended for beginners in using the R language, or intermediate users who want to deepen their knowledge in data visualization.
- If in doubt, do not hesitate to contact us.
What will you learn?
- You will learn the basics of R like assigning variables, basic data types, using R as a calculator, and so on.
- You will learn how to import data and mix different data sources.
- You will learn how to do basic statistics with your data.
- You will learn different kinds of plots for NGS data, including univariate to multivariate plots.
- You will have the opportunity to communicate with an experienced team of speakers and other participants.
And what will you get?
- At the last day of the week you will be provided with a bootable USB stick with all tools used and data analyzed
- All your 4-day work stored and ready to be used immediately when you get back to your lab!
